Blood on the Doorposts – Jeremy Lallier sabbaththoughts.com

The distinction between the Israelites and the Egyptians became strikingly evident during the plagues preceding the tenth. From the flies to the darkness, God made it clear He protected His people while bringing judgment upon Egypt. However, for the tenth plague, a crucial change occurred. Although God assured the safety of the Israelites, they were required to mark their doorposts with the blood of a lamb. This act signified their obedience and faith in God’s protection.

The instructions were clear: apply the blood and stay indoors until morning. Failure to comply meant facing the same fate as the Egyptians. This command underscores the necessity of both faith and obedience in God’s plan for salvation. Even though God knew His people, they still had to demonstrate their trust and adherence to His instructions.

As Passover approaches, we reflect not only on this historical event but also on its spiritual significance for us today. Just as the blood of the lamb protected the Israelites, the blood of Jesus Christ serves as our ultimate protection from impending judgment. However, mere acknowledgment of this truth isn’t sufficient. We must actively apply the blood of Christ to our lives and remain within the safety it provides.

The consequences of disobedience are dire. Hebrews warns against trampling on the sacrifice of Christ and treating it lightly. Similarly, 1 John urges us not to love the world or its sinful desires, emphasizing the transient nature of worldly pleasures.

This Passover, let us heed the timeless lesson: Apply the blood of Christ and remain obedient to His commands. In a world destined for destruction, salvation lies only within the shelter of His sacrifice.
