The Apostle Paul prophesied in the Bible about a great “falling away” before Christ’s return, wherein a “man of sin” would be worshipped as god. Sinful men of this type have risen up to lead church congregations to believe lies at various times. Is that what Paul meant? A bigger, more universal event that is unique in history is more likely, because this personality will perform signs and occupy a seat on the world stage. He will have tremendous influence. What are the lies he will lead the world into? Humanity has already strayed from true doctrines (like the Sabbath) and basic morality. Now we see broad-scale rejection of Christ and a groundswell of atheism. A falling away is happening now. Whether it turns out to be the falling away remains to be seen. Regardless, the threat for the Church today is the slow and gradual peril of neglect and apathy. God has a superior way of life for mankind, and that way is open now to those whom He has called. God does not direct us to arrest the falling away that is taking place in the world but to make sure we do not allow it to happen in our own lives.
