The Problem With Abortion Is Bigger Than Abortion – Jeremy Lallier lifehopeandtruth.com
For most Christians, the contentious subject of abortion has been approached with myopic fervor. The ending of abortion is seen as an end all good on its own. As highlighted by this article and the study it quotes, abortion is just a piece of the puzzle and is the result of a much deeper problem.
A published study, that produced ire on both sides of the argument, by John Donohue and Steven Levitt in 2001 showed both correlation and causation that the legalization of abortion in the 1970’s was partly responsible for the sharp decline of crime in the 1990’s. Drawing the conclusion that the familial conditions that produce criminals are correlating factors in the lives of many seeking out abortions.
To be clear, God hates abortion. Abortion is wrong. As pointed out through multiple verses throughout the Bible, the developing baby within the womb is viewed by God as a life. The act of abortion extinguishes that life, which breaks the law. Breaking the law is sin and God hates sin.
So, what this study revealed was a more complicated problem. Unborn babies deserve way more than just life. They deserve to grow up in a functioning family unit that is dedicated to loving, protecting and teaching them right and wrong. Babies deserve a family that views them as God does.
We currently live in a sad, evil and dying world that would more than likely see an increase of pain and suffering with the elimination of abortion. A much needed transformation is coming though. With the return of Christ and the establishment of God’s government, a worldwide transformation of the hearts of all mankind will be set in motion.
