Discussing “Why Israel?” in a non-church environment can be uncomfortable due to its association with British-Israelism, a belief that Britain’s people descend from ancient Israel. This ideology, tied to notions of racial superiority and colonialism, has been discredited by historians and is widely considered racist.

British-Israelism has also influenced extremist movements like “Christian Identity” and “Serpent Seed,” which promote white supremacy and distort biblical teachings to justify racism. These views do not reflect our beliefs about Israel’s identity or its future, but misconceptions persist. The true connection between Britain and Israel, which predates modern British nationalism and colonialist ideas, is often misunderstood or conflated with these harmful ideologies.

Historically, Israel is seen as both a spiritual community and a physical nation with a unique role in God’s plan. This is evident in biblical prophecies that speak of Israel’s enduring purpose and God’s promises to restore and bless Israel (Ezekiel 36:22-36). While Israel has a unique identity, it is not defined by racial purity but by a shared heritage and mission under God’s covenant.

Understanding Israel’s role is crucial to recognizing the broader narrative of redemption and unity that God is unfolding through history. Israel’s story is not just about a nation, but about all humanity coming into a relationship with God, emphasizing God’s faithfulness and purpose for all people.
