We Shall Be God – John Ritenbaugh cgg.org
The first half of this Bible Study (offered in both audio and transcript format) concerns what happens after death; namely, that there is no immortal soul – we die once and are resurrected once. The second half concerns what happens after that; namely, eternal existence as a full-fledged God-being. This notion is considered blasphemous by some because it ultimately puts us on the same footing as Christ. But it is scriptural and hope-filled understanding of our potential! The creation of physical human beings and of the angels was a fiat process, executed by decree. What God is doing in us now is different; He is re-creating us into the image of Himself by means of a cooperative process, working between the creator and the created. In this process, we walk in the spirit, subjugating and putting to death our carnal impulses with His help. His end-goal is that we become joint heirs (brothers and sisters) with Christ as God’s offspring, and “conformed to His glorious Body.” A child is equal to its parents as a life form and in potential capability, but is not equal in role within the family, so it is not blasphemous to anticipate this amazing future. We are to become God-beings!
