The Wisdom of God’s Law: Why Being Different Should Make People Ask Questions truthsum.org
Have you ever considered that one of the main purposes of God’s law was to make people ask questions?
In Deuteronomy 4, Moses tells Israel that if they keep God’s commands, the surrounding nations will marvel: “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people” (Deut. 4:6). The law was never meant to be a cold checklist or a tool for self-righteousness. It was given to make God’s people wise—to shape a community so righteous, just, and orderly that others would take notice and want to know more.
This raises a question for today: If no one is asking why you live differently, are you really living out God’s wisdom?
Another common misconception is that God’s law was a single, rigid block. In reality, it contains different categories: moral law (like the Ten Commandments), health principles (like clean/unclean distinctions), civil judgments for Israel as a nation, and ceremonial laws tied to temple worship. Not all these apply equally today, but the wisdom behind them still speaks. Many people reject God’s law because they confuse its categories or apply them out of context.
Most importantly, the law was never about earning salvation. It was about walking wisely with God, living in a way that brings life, peace, and clarity. It was about being a light—not a ladder.
