The Feast of Trumpets: Warning and Hope truthsum.org
The Feast of Trumpets has always stirred a mixture of emotions in me. Growing up, some messages emphasized the sobering prophecies leading up to Christ’s return – wars, upheavals, and God’s judgment. We understood this to mean that even God’s people would face tribulation, and that nations of the West, including the U.S., would experience devastation. That brought the reality of this day very close to home.
Other messages turned to the joyous side of the Feast: the moment when Jesus Christ descends, the trumpet sounds, and the saints – dead and alive – are raised to meet Him. That vision filled me with hope and excitement.
Both perspectives are true, because both are central to the Feast of Trumpets.
The Bible shows trumpets announcing both war and warning (Numbers 10:9) and the coronation of a king (1 Kings 1:34). This holy day foreshadows the Day of the Lord – “a day of wrath, trouble, and distress” (Zephaniah 1:14–16) – but also the triumphant return of Christ as King of kings (Revelation 11:15). At the last trumpet, the dead will rise incorruptible, and the faithful will reign with Christ (1 Corinthians 15:52).
This holy day reminds us to stay watchful yet hopeful, awaiting the trumpet that will change the world forever.
