God’s 7,000-Year Plan – Wyatt Ciesielka lcg.org

There is ample proof that the universe is billions of years old, however, this does not preclude God’s 7,000 year plan for humanity. These widely varying ideas about the history of the universe can be rectified by the Gap Theory. By reading Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1-3, we know that the Word (Jesus Christ) was with God from the beginning. Through the Word, God created the heavens and the earth. In Job 38 we read that the angels “shouted for joy” when the physical earth was created showing that the angels had already been created before the creation of the earth. But then in Genesis 1:2, the earth BECAME “tohu and bohu” which means chaotic and wasted. In the gap between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2 the earth experienced a tumultuous history before the creation of man. This period of time could very well have been many millions of years long. In Genesis 1:2 God and the Word then recreated or rehabilitated the earth in preparation for habitation by human beings, and their 7,000 year plan to expand the God family. This perfect plan emulates the 7 days of creation, where the Word created for 6 days and then rested from all His labor on the 7th day. The Bible states, “With the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” Through timelines recorded in the Bible, we recognize that human history since Adam has spanned about 6,000 years. God promises a Sabbath, or Millennial rest, for the final 1000 years of this 7,000 year plan. It offers a soon-coming rejuvenation for all of creation.
