When Leaders Are Lawbreakers – Brian Orchard leadingtolife.org

The world is a mess. We face a crisis of leadership, with lawbreaking leaders leading nations to self-destruction. Christians must step up as law-abiding leaders. Leaders in denial, aided by complicit citizens, ignore reality, avoiding distressing truths. Denial is a defense mechanism that can blind us. An article, “The World’s Most Dangerous Delusion,” highlights this: America denies China’s declared hostility, preferring false peace. This denial permeates our leadership.

Isaiah 17:10-11 warns of this: forgetting God leads to ruin. Leaders claim all is well, but their denial brings disaster. Lawbreaking leaders ignore God, leading to societal decay. People turn a blind eye as long as they feel secure. But wicked leadership is no excuse for individual lawbreaking. Proverbs 5:21-22 reminds us that God’s eyes are on us, and we must follow His ways.

As societal standards fall, Christians must not compare themselves to others but follow Christ. Lawbreakers lead people away from God (Hosea 4:12). Modern idols, whether philosophical or material, distract from true worship. Paganism and syncretism have infiltrated Christianity, mixing truth with falsehood.

Ezekiel 33:31-32 illustrates this: people hear God’s words but do not act. Justice fails when leaders are corrupt (Isaiah 59:4-8). Without truth, justice is impossible. We must love our neighbors and uphold integrity in judgment (Leviticus 19:15-18). Man’s justice system is flawed, lacking God’s basis of judgment.

Jeremiah 9:3-6 depicts a society of deceit and lies. Christians must uphold God’s moral law and man’s law when it aligns with God’s. Our crisis in leadership calls us to repentance and action. We must repair relationships and walk in God’s ways, for they are right.
