Do all the laws of the Old Testament end with Christ’s death? Many believe that the 10 commandments as well as the statutes based on those laws are not binding on man today. This belief is supported by Jesus’ role as High Priest fulfilling many of the rituals observed by the ancient Israelites, such as animal sacrifices. So indeed, some Old Testament practices did end with Christ’s sacrifice. But mankind was not absolved from all responsibility. This article not only explains the rationale behind what the majority believe but it illuminates the main purpose of the Son of God coming to this Earth. He came to reveal His Father’s plan for all humanity. The Law of God reveals the mind of God. Jesus stated that He did not come to destroy the Law but to fill it to the full. He came to magnify and expand that Law into the spiritual dimension of outgoing concern. Jesus and then His disciples after his death, observed and taught the deeper purpose of God’s Law. Christ’s perfect example was for us to follow – striving to obey in thought and action – in both the letter and in the intent of heart. He was filling it full not doing away with the entire need for physical obedience to laws that were declared as immutable and unchangeable. And this by the God who declared Himself the same yesterday, today and forever.
