Grace is not just something given by God but is a part of His very character. God is a gracious God, referenced throughout scripture. This is fortunate because all mankind has sinned, and the wages of sin is death. Death is the byproduct of sin which brings us to Christ’s sacrifice. In order to be gracious or show favor to us, Jesus, living a sinless life, was sacrificed, and died to pay the penalty for sin. Through that sacrifice God freely gives grace but scripture makes it clear it’s not given to everyone. It is given to those faithful who repent. A humble attitude that desires to not sin is given grace. This is just the beginning, grace is given that we may have a relationship with God, come to know ourselves and change course. It opens the door to a relationship through a life of service to God and each other. Grace is not the end all but the beginning to a new life in God’s Kingdom.
