What Is Faith? ucg.org
God wants us to know Him and develop a relationship with Him, offering assurance of His plans for us now and in the future. His Word reveals that godliness benefits all aspects of life, both present and eternal (1 Timothy 4:8). Yet, there’s a critical distinction between merely believing in God and truly believing God.
Believing in God acknowledges His existence. Many people do this, but it often lacks conviction and fails to influence their actions. Believing God, however, involves trusting His promises and acting on them. Abraham exemplified this when he was “fully convinced that what God promised, He would perform” (Romans 4:21). Faith demands action—living according to God’s Word and trusting Him to guide and sustain us.
Faith is not passive belief but active trust, leading to godly living and hope. It is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). True faith pleases God, requires obedience, and grows as we live by His truth (Hebrews 11:6; John 14:15). While faith is a gift of grace, it must be nurtured through action and commitment. Living faith offers peace, hope, and a deeper connection with God, even in a skeptical world.
