Certain religions teach that Jesus Christ was a created being; that He has not existed eternally with the Father. Some others claim that the human Jesus Christ was only inhabited by the Spirit of God which departed when Christ was crucified. Still others teach that Jesus Christ was the archangel Michael who became Jesus Christ. What does the Bible say about Christ? Does the Bible teach that Jesus was created or that He was co-eternal with the Father? The Bible uses many names for the Being who became the incarnate Jesus. To identify who became the human Jesus, we need to search for the various titles used to describe him. John, in the first chapter of his gospel, writes that the Word or Logos was with God from the beginning and was God. Since, in the beginning, only God existed, this Word or Logos must have existed prior to creation. In fact, nothing was created without him. So who was the Word? John clearly states the Word became flesh – which John saw and handled. There is no doubt that John was referring to Jesus Christ. Paul also states Christ was before all things. When Moses asked God for His name, the answer God gave was “I AM”. When the Jews asked Christ who He was He gave the same answer “I AM” – definitively identifying Himself as God. It was the pre-existing God, the Logos, who became the Man, Jesus Christ.
