It is hard to look at the ocean up close and personal and not be impressed with the majesty of its unending waves and tides. It’s power, rhythm and beauty is so immense that it beckons millions to come to its shores or out into its depths. Even so, there is far more to it than meets the eye. The Psalmist was inspired to write “the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas.” In the course of the past two centuries, man has been able to map out the currents or paths of the seas. These paths affect all manner of life in the ocean and the weather patterns that determine the intricate seasonal changes that we experience daily. God’s hand is not only in the seas but also in the highways of our minds, Scientists now know that our feelings and thoughts make deeply grooved highways in our minds or hearts. Whatever it is that we habitually think about is what we will do, setting our character whether good or bad. The good news is that by yielding our will to God’s we can rewire our highways and thereby have a far more abundant life.
