Throughout Christ’s life He had a single motivating drive and purpose. John summed up that purpose toward the end of his gospel when he said “Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God…” (John 13:3) Christ was focused on that pivotal event that would make available an incredible choice for all mankind. This purpose was established well before the physical creation and it was the strength that sustained Him in his tortured and pain filled final hours as a physical being.

All those called to follow Him share in that purpose. As a child called out of this world, we look to the future Kingdom of God. This purpose can give us the strength to face life’s challenges because Jesus tells us “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:3).
