4 Lessons Jesus Taught About the Sabbath tomorrowsworld.org

Four, hidden in plain sight, lessons that Jesus taught about the Seventh day Sabbath. Jesus, Himself, kept the seventh day Sabbath and taught on it. This leads to the first lesson – We are to keep the Sabbath day holy. (Matt 19:16-19) “if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments” of which commandment four is “remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy” (Deut 5). Jesus also taught (Matt 5:17-19) “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven.”  The second lesson – The Sabbath was created as a blessing for mankind (Ex 23:12) and has been since the beginning (Gen 2:3). A day to rest from physical work, to be refreshed. The Sabbath is also a day to be spiritually refreshed and to spiritually refresh others (Lev 23:3). Third lesson – Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2:28). The Sabbath is His day, He is in charge of it and instructs how to keep it. Fourth lesson – God’s people will still be keeping the Sabbath at His return – “and of the end of the age…pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.” (Matt 24:3, 19) These four lessons point to the important, timeless nature of the Sabbath since its creation “In the beginning” (Gen 2:3).
