Using Prophecy Wisely – Brian Orchard youtu.be
Prophecy can strengthen us or lead us away from the path God has set before us. Its purpose is not simply to satisfy our curiosity about future events, establish timelines, or demonstrate how much we know. It should help us grow spiritually and draw closer to God.
As Christians, we live with two opposing influences: the old man, representing our physical nature, and the new man, renewed through God’s Spirit. The challenge is to ensure that the physical man does not dictate the actions of the spiritual man. This is especially important when studying prophecy, where speculation and the desire to understand hidden details can easily distract us.
Scripture reveals that prophecy comes from God. Christ is central to its message, and the prophets repeatedly called people to repent, turn from their wrongdoing, and return to God. The apostles also used the Old Testament prophecies to teach about Christ, the resurrection, and the Kingdom of God.
We should not avoid prophecy because others have misused it. Instead, we must approach it wisely, resisting human speculation and recognizing that God reveals what we need to know when we need to know it.
Prophecy should prepare us spiritually, not make us preoccupied with predicting dates or interpreting every world event. Christ’s instruction remains clear: “Take heed, watch and pray” (Mark 13:33).
The goal is to grow in faith, maintain our spiritual zeal, and live each day prepared for Christ’s return. The physical man must not dictate the actions of the spiritual man.
