The Fall festivals of the yearly biblical holyday cycle begin with the Feast of Trumpets. In Leviticus 23:24 we find the command for this festival, which begins on the first day of the seventh month in the Hebrew calendar. The book of Nehemiah puts special emphasis on this feast as a day where God’s Law was read. It is a holy and joyful day of feasting and sharing. The apostle Paul cites this and the other holydays as foreshadowing things to come in Colossians 2:17. Trumpets in the Bible proceed important events, especially earth-shaking end-time events such as found in the book of Revelation. Both dire punishments for mankind’s collective sins, but also the triumphant return of Jesus Christ! At the same time, those faithful to God will be resurrected to spirit life at His return (1 Corinthians 15:51-52). It signals the end of human rule of the earth and the beginning of God’s just kingdom. To keep the Feast of Trumpets we abstain from work, rest, and we also assemble for a holy convocation (or church service) at which messages about the meaning of the day are given (Leviticus 23).
