3 Characteristics That Define a Real Man – Eddie Foster lifehopeandtruth.com

As societal norms denigrate men and masculinity, this piece gives three examples of what it is to be a real man. Looking to what should be our ultimate example, Christ’s life can and should be a model for all men. The apostle Peter said  Christ left us an example, “that you should follow it.” (1 Pet 2:21).  First characteristic – Christ did not crack under pressure. He showed mental strength even as He was physically weak, He faced down Satan. (Luke 4:5). Christ also demonstrated that same willpower as He knowingly gave Himself to be tortured and killed. (Matt 26:39) In short, compromise is not an option. We must have the strength and character to do what is right and not compromise. Second characteristic – Christ worked hard. Men must work hard to fulfill the needs of their family. (Ecc 9:10) Masculinity is goal-oriented and goal-focused to give (serve) as needed, meaning: responsibilities come before wants. Third characteristic – Christ was bold. Not only being physically strong, as a carpenter and stoneworker would be, He was strong in character as He stood for what was right. With confidence and boldness, He faced religious and political leaders of His time. By staying connected with His Father, He was able to lead with boldness. We too need to be brave, looking to God for strength, not given to timidity and fear but be bold. (Deut 31:6)  Examples of Christ’s masculinity can help men today break out of society’s many false ideas about what boys and men should be.
