Remember Your Creator – Ulysses Ronquillo thefatherscall.org

King Solomon’s depth of experience – good and bad – allowed him to accumulate (with God’s help), a great deal of wisdom. Toward the end of his life he wrote the book of Ecclesiastes in order to leave a legacy of his wise conclusions. The final chapter of the book pulls together his powerful observations regarding life and life’s priorities.

It begins with an admonition to remember now your Creator in the days of your youth before the difficult days come (Ecclesiastes 12:1).

The focus here is on remembering NOW our Creator, while we are still young and while we still have the time. The verse is about coming to terms with life, seeking understanding, and finding happiness, which is the whole point of the book.

In our world today, people are constantly looking for truth and fulfillment – in all the wrong places and through all the wrong avenues. God is the source of our blessings. He brings true happiness and true fulfillment to all of us.

The sooner we incorporate God in our lives, the better off we will be. Living God’s way can spare us from many of the sorrows and painful experiences we encounter in life. There are many good reasons for young people to capitalize on their youth. Foremost it is a time when we have more energy – including to put into pursuing a relationship with God. It is also a time when habits are being formed. We are more teachable and can lay a solid foundation. Youth is also a time when many pressures are brought to bear from society in general so it is a time when we need the stability of a relationship with God the most.

The chapter then deals with the reality of the aging process – the time when the pleasure of living wanes. Solomon sums up the human life as, “Vanity of vanities. All is vanity.” That is pretty confronting but Solomon concludes that the most important thing in life is for us to fear God and keep His commandments.

In the grand scheme of things, we live such short and temporary lives. Ecclesiastes 12 encourages us to remember NOW our Creator NOT only in the days of our youth, but throughout life – because there is never a better time.
